West Bank settler violence electricity network settlement expansion arrests

Violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem has sharply increased. Settlers set fire to three Palestinian cars, torched property and damaged the electricity network in the Madama area south of Nablus, while similar arson and vandalism were reported in villages such as Jalud, Talfit and between the settlements of Beita, Tell and Madama. The Palestinian Center for Information logged 7,458 Israeli violations in July, resulting in 16 Palestinian deaths and roughly 237 injuries.

In response to a deadly clash near the settlement of Havat Gilad and the Palestinian village of Tell that left four Palestinians and two Israelis dead, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a plan to expand West Bank settlements and legalise existing outposts. Israeli forces subsequently carried out large‑scale raids, detaining about 80 people, formally arresting 11, and demolishing the family home of a Palestinian involved in the shootout. Additional arrests included brothers Zaid and Muhammad Saleem Turki in Abu Falah. A settler told the BBC that attacks on Palestinians are justified as revenge.

The escalation has been accompanied by Israeli military actions such as the use of sound‑bombs in Beit Fajjar, Bethlehem, and a series of house demolitions, checkpoints and road closures across the occupied territories.
