Israeli army destroys Gaza mosque in strike claiming Hamas weapons storage

The Israeli Defense Forces said it struck a mosque in the northern Gaza Strip on July 28‑29, asserting the site was used by Hamas to store weapons. Israeli officials reported warning civilians in advance, and footage from the French news agency showed flames, thick smoke and displaced Palestinians evacuating the area before the explosion.

The mosque was reported completely destroyed. Amir Abu al‑Amraeen, Gaza’s director of religious affairs, condemned the attack, saying it was a total demolition and accusing Israel of using pretexts to justify assaults on holy sites. He called for international intervention to protect mosques and other places of worship. The strike was part of a series of Israeli attacks on Hamas weapons depots in central and north Gaza this week, amid ongoing mutual accusations of cease‑fire violations between Israel and Hamas.
