Israeli Strikes Damage UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tyre, Lebanon

Israeli bombardment has caused extensive damage to the UNESCO World Heritage‑listed ruins in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre. Lebanese culture officials, including regional director Ali Badawi (Ali Badaoui), said the strike hit the archaeological administrative office and generated a high volume of debris that shattered columns, mosaics and other artefacts, marking the worst impact since the current Israel‑Hezbollah conflict began.

Lebanese Culture Minister Ghassan Salamé appealed for the protection of the site, stressing that it is a civilian cultural heritage area and not a military target. He warned that Israel’s actions breach the Hague Convention and the UNESCO “Blue Shield” protections established for such sites.
