Israel‑Lebanon clashes erupt despite new peace framework

A U.S.-brokered framework to end the Israel‑Lebanon conflict was signed on June 26, but fighting continued two days later. On June 28 Israeli warplanes bombed the southern Lebanese towns of Deir Seryane and Taybeh, and an Israeli soldier was killed during a clash with Hezbollah militants.

Hezbollah rejected the agreement, calling it null and void, while Lebanese officials said they would implement the pact. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the deal as historic and said Israeli forces will stay in a security zone in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed. The United States and the European Union welcomed the framework, but regional tensions remain high.
