Israel's hardliners push for Gaza reoccupation and settlement

Israeli lawmaker Limor Son Har‑Melech of the far‑right Otzma Yehudit party toured the Gaza border and said on X that “only conquest, expulsion and settlement will restore security for the residents of Israel,” urging control of the Netzarim Corridor and a continuous settlement presence in the enclave.

Veteran negotiator Gershon Baskin warned that, without U.S. restraint, Israel could reoccupy Gaza fully to the sea. He noted a rapid expansion of Israeli control – the “Yellow Line” now covers over 60% of Gaza – a sharp cut in aid, the use of proxy gangs, and intensified recruitment of local informants, all seen as preparatory steps for a renewed military assault that could derail cease‑fire talks in Cairo.
