Israel's offensive in Lebanon pushes death toll past 4,300

Israel's air and ground assaults on southern Lebanon, which began on 2 March, have killed at least 4,328 people and injured more than 12,200, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The ministry added that the conflict has displaced over one million residents.

The attacks have also devastated education infrastructure: at least 20 schools have been reported destroyed, including 17 that were completely demolished, forcing hundreds of schools to serve as shelters for displaced families. UNESCO warned that up to 500,000 children could be denied education, and UNICEF cautioned that without urgent repairs, at least 100,000 pupils may miss the upcoming school year.

International mediation led by the United States has extended a temporary cease‑fire multiple times, most recently to a 45‑day period beginning 17 May, while Iran and Pakistan have facilitated a 14‑point agreement aimed at ending hostilities in the region.
