Israel's prisons accused of denying medical care to Palestinian detainees

The Palestinian Prisoners Association reported ongoing medical violations in Israeli detention facilities. It said 15‑year‑old Muhammad Hamid, held since February in the Shaare Zedek Hospital, underwent open‑heart surgery but his family has been barred from visiting or receiving health updates. The association also highlighted the case of 30‑year‑old Malik Hani Cibril, who was shot by Israeli soldiers in July, later amputated his right leg after surgery, and remains detained.

According to the association, Israel has held about 24,600 Palestinians since October 2023, including 1,900 children and 785 women. Roughly 9,400 detainees are still incarcerated, among them over 350 children, 94 women, 3,244 administrative prisoners and 1,320 individuals classified as “illegal combatants.” The group urged the United Nations and the international community to compel Israel to provide adequate medical treatment to all prisoners.

The statements call for urgent and effective steps to address these alleged violations of medical rights in the occupied West Bank’s prison system.
