ISRO launches 746-job recruitment drive to address staff shortage
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has opened applications for a total of 746 positions as part of its 2026 recruitment drive. The vacancies comprise 92 Scientist/Engineer posts, 244 administrative Level‑4 posts through the ISRO Centralized Recruitment Board, and 410 apprenticeship seats at the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru. The move follows a report that the Department of Space faces its highest vacancy rate in 25 years, with 5,632 unfilled posts – about 30% of its workforce.
Apprenticeship applications are accepted online via the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal from July 29 until 11:59 PM on August 28, 2026. Graduate apprentices will receive a stipend of Rs 12,300 per month, while Technician and Commercial apprentices will get Rs 10,900 per month. Selection for Scientist/Engineer roles will be based 50% on GATE scores and 50% on interview performance. Successful candidates will be posted across ISRO facilities, including URSC, the Human Space Flight Centre, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Satish Dhawan Space Centre, and others.
