ISRO 2026 recruitment drive expands
Overview
In late June 2026, ISRO began a broad hiring campaign via ISTRAC, inviting applications for various technical, scientific, and administrative roles. This drive aims to address a reported vacancy rate of approximately 30% (5,632 unfilled posts), the highest in 25 years. In July, the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) conducted walk-in interviews for 460 apprentice trainees. On 30 July, ISRO announced 746 additional vacancies, including 92 Scientist/Engineer posts, 244 administrative Level-4 posts, and 410 apprenticeship seats at the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC). For Scientist/Engineer roles, selection is based on a 50% GATE score and 50% interview. In early August, recruitment expanded to include 99 Scientist/Engineer positions: six bio-related posts at the Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) in Bengaluru, and 93 posts across multiple disciplines via the Centralised Recruitment Board. The 93 posts, which require valid GATE 2025/2026 scores, have an application deadline of 17 August 2026. By mid-August, the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) announced 19 vacancies for roles including Technical Assistant, Technician ‘B’, Draughtsman ‘B’, and Fireman ‘A’ in Valiamala and Bengaluru. Applications for these LPSC positions are scheduled to run from 18 August to 4 September 2026. On 28 August, the ISRO Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB) announced a new drive for 175 Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ positions. This includes 99 roles in Electronics, 52 in Mechanical, 21 in Computer Science, and two specialized positions for the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL). Candidates must hold a BE/BTech with at least 65 percent marks and meet a maximum age limit of 28 years as of 16 September. Applications for these roles opened on 27 August and close on 16 September 2026. Details for these 175 positions specify that 172 posts are located at various ISRO centres, while three are earmarked for the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL).
