ISRO to launch EOS-05 satellite via GSLV-F17 on September 4

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is scheduled to launch the EOS-05 Earth observation satellite on September 4 at 02:55 AM from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The mission will utilize the GSLV-F17 rocket, marking the 19th flight of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mk II.

EOS-05 is designed as a state-of-the-art imaging satellite that will operate from a sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit (sub-GTO). Positioned approximately 36,000 kilometers above Earth, the satellite will rotate at the same speed as the planet, allowing it to monitor large areas of India repeatedly. This capability is intended to assist in tracking natural disasters such as cyclones, floods, cloudbursts, and forest fires, as well as monitoring land-use changes and border activities.

The GSLV-F17 rocket stands 51.7 meters tall with a launch mass of approximately 420.5 tons. Following launch, the 2,367 kg spacecraft will be placed in an orbit with a perigee of 170 km and an apogee of 28,934 km.
