IMSS expands digital appointments, single‑visit breast‑cancer screening and anti‑fraud measures

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) has broadened its digital services, allowing beneficiaries to schedule medical appointments online through the IMSS Digital app, a web portal, a telephone line (800 681 2525) and in‑person at family‑medicine units. Users must provide their CURP, NSS and email, after which they can select a date, time and receive a digital confirmation.

IMSS is also implementing a "Acto Único" strategy for breast‑cancer care, consolidating mammography, ultrasound and, when needed, biopsy into a single visit. The program, overseen by Dr. María de la Luz García Tinoco, aims to speed diagnosis, reduce follow‑up loss and improve survival, with about 65 % of cases now detected at early stages across ten dedicated detection units.

In Oaxaca, IMSS nutrition officials warned that poor diet and inactivity drive overweight, obesity and related chronic diseases, urging balanced calorie intake and regular exercise. Meanwhile, in Reynosa, the IMSS and the local chamber of commerce (Canaco) agreed to provide free preventive‑health brigades to workplaces, offering vaccinations, blood‑pressure checks, glucose testing and health education.

Finally, IMSS launched a permanent anti‑fraud campaign targeting employers whose worker registration data show atypical patterns. The campaign uses the IMSS mailbox system to alert companies, guide regularisation and discourage illegal enrollment schemes.
