ISSSTE Opens First Pain and Palliative Care Clinic in Guerrero, Mexico

The Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE) inaugurated a Pain and Palliative Care Clinic at the Regional Hospital of High Specialty (HRAE) in Acapulco, Guerrero. It is the first such unit in the state and offers multidisciplinary treatment for chronic pain and end‑of‑life care, including outpatient services, home visits, advanced equipment and a focus on physical, emotional, social and spiritual support.

In related health developments, the ISSSTE HRAE "Centenario de la Revolución Mexicana" in Morelos performed a multiorgan donation from a 62‑year‑old woman from Guerrero, providing a liver, two kidneys and corneas to four recipients. The organs were transported to hospitals in Mexico City and Puebla.

The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) in Guerrero also completed its second multiorgan procurement of the year, using organs from a 37‑year‑old man who suffered fatal brain trauma. The donation supplied a liver, two kidneys and two corneas, benefiting five transplant candidates across Mexico City hospitals. Both cases underline expanding organ‑donation networks and specialized medical services in Guerrero.
