Turkey and Cyprus police conduct major crime and drug operations
Law enforcement agencies in Turkey and Cyprus have conducted several high-profile operations and responded to violent incidents. In Turkey, a massive crackdown on organized crime across 20 provinces led to the detention of 178 suspects linked to 12 criminal networks. Additionally, a major operation in Konya, dubbed ‘Kıskaç’, resulted in the seizure of 244 unlicensed pistols and various munitions, while an investigation in Mersin uncovered a synthetic drug manufacturing site containing nearly 300,000 pills.
Violent crimes have also been reported. In Cyprus, a man was granted an additional eight days of detention following the death of Rukiye Tunçer, who was allegedly struck with a polishing machine. In Turkey, several domestic tragedies occurred, including a fatal shooting in Ceyhan involving an ex-spouse and a case in Diyarbakır where a man committed suicide after a fatal confrontation with his former wife. In Zonguldak, a couple was arrested for allegedly chaining their 17-year-old daughter.
Other incidents include a harassment case in Kağıthane where suspects were tracked by police drones, and a shooting in Sarıyer involving a 14-year-old using a Kalashnikov. In Isparta, a man received a 26-year prison sentence for a fatal shooting.
