Istanbul floods kill at least 10 people in worst rainfall in 84 years

At least 10 people have died following the most intense rainfall recorded in Istanbul, Turkey, in 84 years. The Istanbul Governor's Office confirmed that search operations for the final missing person, Ahmet Derin, have concluded after his body was recovered.

The extreme weather caused significant destruction, damaging hundreds of homes, businesses, and vehicles across Istanbul and the neighboring Kocaeli province. Nuri Aslan, the deputy mayor of Istanbul, reported that some areas received up to 273 liters of rain per square meter.

Authorities in both provinces are currently working to repair material damages and have begun processing initial compensation for those affected. While rain is expected to continue in the eastern Black Sea region, weather forecasts suggest partially cloudy skies and temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius for the rest of the country.
