Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu speaks as prosecutor requests release of five detainees in İBB trial

On the 41st day of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) trial, the Istanbul 40th Heavy Penal Court in Silivri heard the prosecutor’s request to release five detained individuals: Iraz Bayrak, Orhan Gazi Erdoğan, Mustafa Keleş, Engin Ulusoy and Gökhan Köseoğlu. The court later granted detention‑review releases for those five and also ordered the release of Seza Büyükçulha, Ahmet Şahin, Cevat Kaya and Hakan Aplak.

Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose party’s presidential candidate is also on trial, addressed the chamber, saying, “İnşallah güzel olacak, bekliyoruz sonucu. Birlikte olmak, dayanışmak ve güçlü olmak zorundayız. Özgür Özel can yoldaşımdır, genel başkanımızdır, onu çok seviyorum.” Businessman Murat Kapkı added, “İfadelerimi çekmeseydim benim için de tahliye istenecekti.”
