Mersin Metropolitan Municipality expands student and social welfare services

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality has implemented a wide range of social support services targeting university students and citizens with specific dietary needs.

For university students, the municipality provides housing through dormitories and guest houses, counseling via the MERCİ Student Counseling Center, and vocational training through MERCEK. To ease daily living costs, the city offers affordable meal services with three-course meals for 35 TL, low-cost transportation with 15 TL student passes, and access to free laundry cafes, libraries, and reading rooms. Additionally, students can find part-time employment opportunities at Denizkızı cafes.

In a separate social initiative, the municipality provides free gluten-free food support to Celiac patients. Since 2021, the Social Services Department has been distributing 16 gluten-free breads and 3 kilograms of gluten-free flour monthly to 1,012 registered citizens to alleviate the economic burden of specialized diets.
