A 15-year-old female student has been detained following a knife attack at Şeyh Şamil İmam Hatip Ortaokulu in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul. The incident occurred on the morning of October 6, 2026, when the attacker, a 10th-grade student from a different high school in Küçükçekmece, entered the premises wearing a school uniform and reportedly stabbed students indiscriminately.

Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu confirmed that eight students were injured in the attack. Of the victims, one is reported to be in critical condition, while two are in moderate-to-serious condition. Five other students sustained minor injuries and were expected to be discharged from the hospital.

Following the incident, the Ministry of National Education suspended all educational activities at the school for two days. Authorities have launched both judicial and administrative investigations into the matter. Additionally, the Istanbul 3rd Criminal Court of Peace has imposed a broadcasting ban on news coverage related to the attack while investigations continue.
