Istanbul's Kadikoy Square to be opened up by relocating 13 bus routes
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) approved a redesign of Kadikoy Square under the Kadikoy Greening Project. Thirteen bus lines that currently serve the waterfront bus platforms will have their final stop moved to the Uzunçayır transfer hub. The change, decided at an İBB Ulaşım Koordinasyon Merkezi (UKOME) meeting, will shift the routes to Uzunçayır, where passengers can connect to the Metrobüs and M4 Kadikoy‑Sabiha Gökçen Metro line. By removing the buses from the Kadikoy Rıhtım area, the project aims to cut bus traffic in the square by about 30%, ease congestion for the estimated 100,000 daily pedestrians, and promote rail‑based travel. The plan also includes free two‑way transfers between the relocated lines and the new Uzunçayır service, preserving fare integration while freeing up platform capacity for more efficient use of public transport resources.
