Istat 2026 Census and demographic data released in Italy

The Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat) has launched the 2026 permanent census of the population and housing. Nationally, the survey involves 2,529 municipalities and approximately one million families. In Milan, the sample survey targets 10,000 families, with participation occurring between October 5 and December 23. Selected families can complete questionnaires online, with in-person assistance from municipal surveyors scheduled to begin on November 12 for those who have not yet responded.

In the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, provisional Istat data for January 1, 2026, shows that foreign residents account for only 3.0% of the population. This figure is significantly lower than the 9.3% recorded in the province of Vicenza, the 10.4% in Veneto, and the 9.1% national average. While the number of foreign residents in the Altopiano has seen a slight increase to 631, the distribution varies by municipality: Asiago has the highest number with 238 residents, followed by Lusiana Conco with 171 and Roana with 124.
