István Kapitány files report over Waberer’s state financing

István Kapitány, the Minister of Economy and Energy, has filed a report against unknown perpetrators regarding the state financing of the logistics company Waberer’s. The legal action follows an audit of state financial institutions, which raised suspicions of breach of trust and abuse of office.

The investigation focuses on two significant bond transactions involving the Magyar Fejlesztési Bank (MFB). In 2022, the MFB purchased 111 million euros worth of Waberer’s bonds, followed by a 100 million euro transaction scheduled for 2026. Together, these represent approximately 77 billion forints in financing.

Minister Kapitány alleges that during the second transaction, the MFB provided financing at a rate below its own cost. He suggests that any resulting losses could be covered by the central budget through the interest equalization system, potentially creating a budgetary burden of up to 10 billion forints. The Minister noted that by the time of the 2026 transaction, István Tiborcz was already exercising ownership control over Waberer’s.
