İSU expands renewable energy capacity with new solar investment

İSU Genel Müdürlüğü, the water and wastewater administration for Kocaeli, is expanding its renewable energy capacity through new solar investments. The agency plans to install 2,080 new solar panels, each with 620 Wp power, across approximately 40,000 square meters near the Kandıra Namazgâh Dam.

This new solar energy plant (GES) investment is expected to add approximately 2.7 GWh of annual electricity production to the existing system. Currently, İSU operates 12 renewable energy facilities, including 6 hydroelectric plants, 4 solar energy plants, and 2 biomass energy plants.

In 2025, these facilities produced a total of 14.3 GWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the monthly electricity consumption of approximately 16,274 households. The agency aims to use these investments to increase energy efficiency and reduce operational costs for water and wastewater treatment processes.
