Renewable energy expansion in Türkiye

Overview

Various Turkish entities are expanding their renewable energy infrastructure through solar power investments.

Türkiye İş Bankası, via its subsidiary İş Enerji, increased its solar capacity for self-consumption to 45 megawatts following the commissioning of a 21-megawatt plant in Mardin. This expansion, which follows a 24-megawatt plant in Bitlis, aims to power the bank’s Atlas Data Center and branches while reducing carbon emissions. The bank intends to reach 75 megawatts of installed solar capacity by 2027.

In Kocaeli, the water and wastewater administration İSU is also investing in solar energy. The agency plans to install over 2,000 solar panels near the Kandıra Namazgâh Dam, an investment expected to add approximately 2.7 GWh of annual electricity production. This project builds upon İSU’s existing portfolio of 12 renewable energy facilities, including hydroelectric, solar, and biomass plants, to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.
