Itabirito FC to relocate to Varginha and rename as Minas do Sul

Itabirito Futebol Clube will relocate its headquarters to Varginha in southern Minas Gerais starting in the 2027 season. Under a new partnership involving the Varginha City Hall and a Football Corporation (SAF), the club will be renamed Minas do Sul.

The transition was formalized through an agreement signed by Varginha Mayor Leonardo Ciacci and SAF executive director Maycon Pereira. The project aims to maintain a men's team in the top tier of the Campeonato Mineiro and establish a women's team to compete in the Brazilian Championship Série A. Additionally, the plan includes youth development categories ranging from under-13 to under-20.

Varginha was selected due to its strategic location between Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. The city is expected to provide training and match facilities, including the Dilzon Melo Municipal Stadium, known as 'o Melão', which has a capacity of approximately 15,000 spectators. While the club is moving, officials stated that the history established by Itabirito since its 2022 founding will be incorporated into the new Minas do Sul identity.
