Folgore Paratroopers Donate Blood and Plasma in Livorno

Nearly 90 soldiers from the 187th Parachute Regiment “Folgore”, commanded by Colonel Girolamo Bufi, took part in a two‑day blood and plasma donation drive at the Transfusion Centre of Livorno Hospital. The initiative, organized in cooperation with the hospital’s transfusion service, aimed to bolster the seasonal shortage of blood supplies that typically occurs in the summer. Hospital director Spartaco Mencaroni praised the event, saying “Accogliere i donatori è sempre un piacere e un onore,” while Immuno‑hematology director Elena Sardano thanked the troops and urged young people to follow their example. Nurse Giovanna Cersosimo, a senior officer of the regiment, coordinated the operation. The drive highlights the role of the armed forces in promoting solidarity and supporting the local health system.
