Italian activists detained in Libya remain in custody

Two Italian activists, Domenico Centrone and Dina Alberizia, who were part of a humanitarian land flotilla, have had their pre‑trial detention extended by a Libyan prosecutor in Benghazi. The Libyan authorities ordered the continuation of custody until the next hearing.

The Italian Foreign Ministry, the Embassy in Tripoli and the Consulate General in Benghazi have filed a new request for a consular visit and are negotiating the activists' repatriation. Their families and the Flotilla organization have expressed anxiety, noting the lack of formal charges and unclear timelines for possible expulsion. Public protests were held in Bari and other Italian cities demanding their immediate release and safe return.
