Italian airports report record passenger traffic in August 2026

Major Italian airports reported record-breaking passenger numbers for August 2026. Bologna’s Marconi Airport saw a 3.6% increase compared to August 2025, handling 1,149,209 passengers. This growth was driven significantly by domestic flights, which rose by 7.2%, with Palermo emerging as the most popular destination following new Wizz Air connections and travel disruptions in Catania.

In Tuscany, the Tuscan Airport System recorded its best August ever, with over 1.1 million passengers, marking a 3.0% increase from the previous year. This performance pushed the system's total passenger count for the first eight months of the year past the 7 million mark.

Within the Tuscan system, Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci Airport saw 386,000 passengers, a 0.2% increase supported by international travel, with Paris remaining the top route. Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport reported 717,000 passengers, a 4.6% increase driven by growth in both international and domestic segments, with London being the busiest route.
