Italian airports continued to demonstrate significant growth throughout the summer and early autumn of 2026. Data from July indicated 25.5 million passengers, a 7% increase compared to the previous year, bringing the total movement for the first seven months of 2026 to 137 million passengers.

By August 2026, several regions reported record-breaking figures. The Tuscan Airport System recorded its best August ever with over 1.1 million passengers, while Bologna’s Marconi Airport saw a 3.6% increase. In Umbria, the San Francesco d’Assisi International Airport also set a new monthly record in August, driven by international traffic which accounted for 70.8% of its total volume.

In September 2026, regional growth continued in Puglia, Tuscany, and Calabria, largely driven by a surge in international travel. Puglia’s airport network handled 1,298,551 passengers, an 11% increase compared to September 2025, with Bari and Brindisi seeing increases of 12.6% and 10.2% respectively. Brindisi specifically saw a 23% rise in international routes.

Calabria’s airport system reported 518,888 passengers in September, an 18.6% increase, led by Lamezia Terme with 393,116 passengers (+23%). International traffic in Calabria jumped by 38.3% during this period.

Tuscany’s airport system also reached new milestones, exceeding 1 million passengers in September for the fifth consecutive month, a 7.9% increase. Within the Tuscan system, Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci Airport surpassed 400,000 passengers for the first time in its history, while Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport recorded its best September on record with 664,000 passengers.
