Italian airports report rising passenger traffic
Italian airports are experiencing significant growth in passenger traffic. According to data from Assaeroporti, July saw 25.5 million passengers, a 7% increase compared to July 2025. For the first seven months of 2026, total passenger movement reached 137 million, up 5.3% year-on-year. Notable double-digit growth was recorded in Rimini, Lamezia Terme, Bolzano, Torino, and Lampedusa, while major hubs Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa grew by nearly 3%.
In Umbria, the San Francesco d’Assisi International Airport set a new monthly record in August with 85,129 passengers, a 3.5% increase over its previous July record and a 4.8% increase from August 2025. This growth is driven largely by international traffic, which exceeded 60,000 passengers in August, accounting for 70.8% of the airport's total traffic. From January to August 2026, the Perugia-based airport handled 461,441 passengers, a 5.2% increase over the same period last year.
