Italian Alpine Rescue teams aid injured hikers in Lombardy and Basilicata

On 27 June, a 41‑year‑old man born in Paraguay and resident of Rovetta slipped on a trail near the Pizzo Coca in the high Valle Seriana (about 2,700 m). Alpine and speleological rescue units, together with a 118 air‑ambulance, conducted a lengthy rescue hindered by fog. The hiker suffered a concussion and several fractures, was stabilized on‑site and air‑lifted to Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo.

Two days earlier, on 25 June, a hiker in difficulty was located in the Murgia Park near Matera, Basilicata, after an alert was sent via the GeoResQ system. GeoResQ directly contacted the regional Alpine Rescue, enabling a swift response coordinated with the 118 ambulance service, fire brigade and Carabinieri. The hiker was assisted on foot and safely descended without serious injury.
