Two Hikers Rescued in Sicily's Madonie Mountains

Two young hikers, aged 27 and 26, became disoriented north of Monte Cervi in the Madonie range, Sicily, during an afternoon trek. The 118 Palermo‑Trapani operations centre alerted the Palermo station of the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS). Two rescue squads – one from Petralia Sottana and another already in the area – were dispatched. Using GPS geolocation, the teams quickly located the hikers, assessed them as healthy and escorted them safely back to their car.

The CNSAS reminded the public that proper mountain preparation is essential: plan routes with daylight in mind, carry a headlamp with spare batteries, and keep a powerbank for phone autonomy.
