Italian alpine rescue teams respond to several July 28 incidents

In the Apuan Alps, two alpinists on the north face of Pizzo d’Uccello were rescued after a night‑long operation. One fell about 30 metres but was caught by his partner; a combined effort of regional alpine‑rescue squads, a naval helicopter (MH101) and fire‑service support brought the climbers to safety.

Other incidents on the same day included the rescue of an 80‑year‑old man with Alzheimer’s who fell into a ravine near Castelbuono in Sicily; Carabinieri and the Sicilian alpine‑speleo service located him, treated his lumbar fracture and transferred him to a hospital in Cefalù.

These operations involved a range of regional rescue units, helicopter crews and fire services, illustrating the coordinated response to alpine emergencies in Italy.
