Italian Alzheimer care initiatives honor fire victims and expand local support

Six Italian youths – Achille Barosi, Chiara Costanzo, Emanuele Galeppini, Riccardo Minghetti, Sofia Prosperi and Giovanni Tamburi – died in the Le Constellation fire in Crans‑Montana, Switzerland on the night of 31 December 2025–1 January 2026, an incident that left 41 dead and 115 injured. On 28 May, Fondazione Roma inaugurated six new apartments for Alzheimer and Parkinson patients in its Villaggio in Rome, naming each unit after one of the victims and unveiling a mural by Jerico. The apartments are offered free of charge, turning the memory of the young Italians into tangible support for families facing neuro‑degenerative disease, with Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re officiating the ceremony.

In a separate effort, the Italian company Tesorino announced financial backing for Alzheimer‑focused community projects in Montopoli in Val d’Arno. The support will cover the “Caffè Alzheimer” sessions at the municipal library – made free to participants – and the upcoming Alzheimer Fest 2026 scheduled for 22 September, the only Tuscan stop of the national event. Officials highlighted the partnership as a way to reduce isolation for patients and caregivers and to foster inclusive community engagement.
