Italian PNRR construction projects in Sicily and Calabria hit 80% completion
The latest review of Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) shows that public works in the south are accelerating. In Ragusa province, the municipal administration reported that 59 of 74 projects – about 80 % – are finished, with the remaining 15 in final stages. The total value exceeds €113 million, of which €63 million has been spent and €11.8 million is being disbursed. Key works include the new Rossa nursery, Manzoni primary school, Casa Lea housing, airport upgrades and fire‑safety retrofits, all slated for completion by the end of August, with further upgrades scheduled through December.
In Calabria, the Feneal‑UIL union highlighted that out of 9,751 PNRR‑funded projects worth over €2.3 billion, only 21 % are complete, lagging the national average of 26.2 %. The union stresses the need to speed up construction to fully exploit the €774 million allocated to ecological transition, €541 million to infrastructure and €443 million to digitalisation. Both regions call for stronger administrative capacity, qualified staff and streamlined procedures to avoid delays and ensure the PNRR delivers its intended economic and employment benefits.
