Italian artisan groups seek reform of outdated sector laws
Italian artisan organizations, including Confartigianato, CNA, and Casartigiani, are calling for a reform of the framework law governing the craftsmanship sector. They argue that the current legislation is over forty years old and obsolete, failing to reflect modern production processes, digital integration, and the use of artificial intelligence in artisan businesses.
In response to concerns raised by Confindustria regarding potential anti-competitive effects or unfair advantages, the artisan groups maintain that the government's proposed legislative text provides solutions to prevent market distortions. They emphasize that the reform aims to modernize the sector without creating a ‘grey zone’ or imposing additional public costs.
Giorgio Felici, president of Confartigianato Imprese Piemonte, stated that imposing strictly dimensional limits on artisan businesses would penalize those seeking to grow and expand their markets. The organizations advocate for a regulatory framework aligned with European principles, noting that in countries like France and Germany, there are no restrictions preventing artisan companies from increasing in size while maintaining their specific identity.
