Italian authorities seize beach umbrellas and chairs at Naples' Laghetto beach
Coast Guard units and local police from the Port Authority of Torre del Greco confiscated around 40 beach umbrellas, chairs and small tables from the public Laghetto beach near Naples. The operation targeted the practice known locally as “furbetti dell'ombrellone,” where users leave equipment overnight to reserve a spot. Fines of up to €500 were imposed, and the seized items can be reclaimed only after an administrative procedure. This seizure was part of a nationwide campaign that has also been carried out on beaches in Apulia, Liguria and Sardinia to protect free access to public beaches and enforce regulations on maritime public goods.
