Italian authorities seize food plant and 7 million euros in crime investigations
Authorities in Naples have executed two significant seizures involving environmental violations and financial crimes.
In Gragnano, the plant of the food preservation company DA VIA S.p.A. was seized following investigations by the Carabinieri. The company is accused of operating without environmental authorization and improperly managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste, including mineral oils and disinfectants, which were reportedly stored on bare ground. Additionally, the facility's wastewater purification system was found to be non-compliant with authorized plans.
In a separate investigation, the Guardia di Finanza seized 7 million euros linked to the embezzlement and laundering of public funds. Between 2018 and 2024, a former representative of a sports association allegedly diverted 4.5 million euros in contributions from universities and public administrations for personal use. Through international cooperation involving Eurojust, authorities identified assets in Germany, including 21 properties, 4 businesses, 83 bank accounts, and luxury vehicles, used to launder approximately 2.5 million euros of the illicit funds.
