Italian Balsamic Consortium Marks 60 Years with Special Stamp

A new ordinary stamp has been issued in Italy to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Consorteria del Balsamico Tradizionale. The stamp, part of the “Eccellenze del sistema produttivo e del Made in Italy” series, reproduces the opening of the historic 1862 letter by agronomist Francesco Aggazzotti describing the original recipe for traditional Modena balsamic vinegar, and shows a row of wooden barrels. A limited run of 180,000 copies will be sold through post offices across the country.

A delegation of Modena officials traveled to Rome to present the stamp at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. The group was led by Moreno Gesti, assessor for environment, agriculture and local culture, and included Gran Maestro Maurizio Fini, mayoral representatives from Ravarino, Formigine and Spilamberto, and a provincial councilor. The stamp is intended to reinforce the region’s gastronomic heritage and promote the balsamic tradition worldwide.
