Italian business mission meets in Brazil to expand trade

A delegation of over 90 Italian companies met at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) to discuss expanding trade, investments, and industrial partnerships between Italy and Brazil. The mission, themed “Costruire Futuro. Crescimento comune UE-Mercosul,” aimed to strengthen ties under the framework of the Mercosul–European Union Agreement.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani attended the event and was honored with the Order of Industrial Merit of São Paulo. Discussions focused on sectors such as pharmaceuticals, health, energy, and industrial machinery. Local officials, including the Secretary of Economic Development of Tangará da Serra, noted the potential for increased technological exchange and automation through these partnerships.

The meeting occurs amid commercial tensions, specifically regarding the European Union's suspension of Brazilian beef imports. While the mission includes various industrial and service sectors, the beef embargo remains a critical point of discussion due to its potential impact on supply chains and broader economic relations. In 2025, Brazilian beef exports to the EU were valued at approximately US$ 1.05 billion.
