Brazil automotive industry posts 8.8% production rise in H1 2026

The National Association of Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) reported that vehicle production in Brazil grew 8.8% in the first half of 2026, reaching 1.37 million units – the strongest semester since 2019. Total vehicle registrations rose 18.5% to 1.42 million, with the overall market expanding about 20% year‑on‑year. Anfavea raised its 2026 sales forecast to more than 3 million units, a 12.1% increase from 2025, while production growth expects 5.8% for the year. Imports jumped 22.8% to 280.6 thousand units, half from China, whereas exports fell 21.2% to 216.6 thousand units. Electrified vehicles surged 125%, accounting for 16% of light‑vehicle sales; BYD’s Dolphin Mini entered the top‑10 and GAC’s Aion UT became the fifth‑best‑selling electric model in June. The industry association also announced it will not challenge the temporary import‑quota benefit for hybrid and electric cars in court and will lodge a governance complaint with the Federal Court of Accounts.
