Italian Carabinieri mark 212th anniversary with parachute display in Reggio Calabria

On 5 June 2026 the Carabinieri celebrated the 212th anniversary of their founding. A ceremony in Bologna highlighted the force’s crime‑fighting results, noting rises in theft arrests, elderly‑fraud prosecutions and drug seizures, while domestic‑violence arrests fell.

In Reggio Calabria the celebration included a dramatic parachute show. Carabinieri parachutists jumped from helicopters, released red‑white‑green smoke trails and landed at the Arena dello Stretto with a large national flag. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, five ministers and the Defence Chief watched the event, which attracted thousands of spectators along the city’s waterfront.
