Italian Carabinieri officers retire after more than four decades of service

Captain Riccardo Cappelletti ended a career spanning nearly 40 years in the Carabinieri. Enlisting in 1986, he served in the territorial units of Piedmont and Liguria before a long tenure at the Lucca Provincial Command. He commanded the Lucca police station from 2015 and, after becoming an officer in 2021, led the Vignola Carabinieri station. His term included investigations such as the October 2023 double homicide and a February 2026 armed robbery at a betting centre, leading to the arrest of the entire gang.

Major Domenico Barletta also retired in July 2026 after 41 years with the Carabinieri. He joined in 1985, held posts across several stations and companies, and commanded the Ostuni station from 2009 to 2018. He later led the investigative unit of the Brindisi provincial command until his discharge. Barletta participated in a peace mission to Ethiopia and Eritrea in 2004‑05 and received numerous decorations, including the silver and gold crosses for seniority, the Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, and honors from the UN. Both officers were praised for their dedication and contributions to public safety.
