Italian cat shelters host adoption events and call for foster homes amid summer surge

The Infermeria Felina in Bizzuno (Ravenna province) organized a public evening on 28 July to showcase blind kittens rescued after severe eye injuries caused by attacks from chickens. Several of the kittens have undergone eye surgery and daily treatment with eye drops, leading to notable improvements. Some have already been adopted, while five remain available. The event aims to challenge prejudice about blind cats, with ENPA Lugo president Marianna Gianstefani stating, “Blind cats can lead full, happy lives just like any other.”

Meanwhile, the animal shelter in Trieste announced an urgent need for temporary foster homes (balie), food supplies, and adopters for newborn kittens during the peak summer intake. Volunteers explained that existing foster capacity is fully occupied and that fostering reduces the risk of injury and health issues for the kittens. The shelter provides necessary supplies and veterinary support to foster families and seeks families willing to adopt once the kittens pass health examinations.
