Italian cities implement new urban mobility and safety plans

Italian municipalities are implementing new initiatives to improve urban mobility and safety. In Gorgonzola, the local government has adopted a new urban road safety plan inspired by the European ‘Vision Zero’ strategy. The plan aims to eliminate road fatalities and minimize serious injuries through structural actions. For one year, the Local Police will increase monitoring of speed, driving under the influence of alcohol or substances, smartphone use, and helmet compliance. Operations will also target irregular parking and safety education in schools, focusing on the historic center and major city thoroughfares.

In Genoa, the municipal government has approved participation in the European ‘Fusion’ project under the Horizon Europe program. This initiative aims to transform urban mobility through energy-efficient shared solutions and integrated public transport systems. The project will focus on strategic interchange hubs, specifically near the Genova Principe and Genova Brignole railway stations. The goal is to create seamless connections between local public transport, car and bike sharing, and taxi services using advanced digital information totems. The project is expected to be fully funded by European resources, resulting in no cost to the municipal budget.
