Genoa urban mobility and accessibility initiatives

Overview

The municipality of Genoa has committed to several European initiatives focused on enhancing urban accessibility and sustainable transport. This project seeks to implement a polycentric ‘15-minute city’ model by valuing established urban nuclei and involving residents directly in the planning process.

Expanding its mobility efforts, Genoa has approved participation in the European ‘Fusion’ project under the Horizon Europe program. This initiative aims to transform urban mobility through energy-efficient shared solutions and integrated public transport systems. The project will focus on strategic interchange hubs near the Genova Principe and Genova Brignole railway stations, creating seamless connections between local transport, car and bike sharing, and taxi services via digital information totems. The project is expected to be fully funded by European resources, resulting in no cost to the municipal budget.
