Campania region bans outdoor work during peak heat hours

The Campania regional government signed Ordinance No. 1 on 17 June 2026, effective from 21 June to 31 August, prohibiting outdoor work in the hottest part of the day for workers exposed to high temperatures. The ban applies to agriculture, construction and related sectors between 12:30 and 16:00 in municipalities where the INAIL Worklimate system flags a “high” risk level. Exceptions are allowed for urgent or essential services, provided safety regulations are followed. President Roberto Fico said, “With this ordinance we intervene to concretely protect agricultural workers, those in the construction sector and anyone who works outdoors for many hours in the sun.” The measure aims to prevent heat‑related illnesses for thousands of outdoor workers during an increasingly intense summer heat wave.
