Italian cities resume stalled social housing projects

Rome’s Villaggio Prenestino centre, halted since 2013 due to legal disputes, will restart construction after the municipal administration secured more than €2.4 million in funding. The new contract will be awarded on 9 July, with an 18‑month schedule to complete the multi‑purpose complex that has remained a skeletal structure for a decade.

In Florence, the first 15 of 36 apartments of the Montedomini social‑housing village for frail but autonomous seniors have been inaugurated. The units are equipped with integrated home‑automation and remote‑monitoring services, and the project, funded by PNrr (€2.46 million), the Toscana region (€1.36 million) and the CR Firenze foundation, will ultimately accommodate 100 elderly residents, combining on‑site and remote support.

Both initiatives are part of Italy’s broader effort to revitalize urban areas and expand affordable, assisted housing for vulnerable populations.
