Italian cities revamp school campuses and public spaces

In Avellino, environmental group Legambiente urged the municipality and province to adopt a new urban plan that goes beyond the relocation of the Liceo Colletta and the Enrico Cocchia middle school. The association called for a participatory process, sustainable public buildings and a review of the 2008 PUC to address population decline, mobility needs and climate concerns.

In Legnano, the "La scuola si fa città" project completed the redesign of Piazza Turati, converting about 2,200 m² into an inclusive, barrier‑free public area. New circular plazas, permeable surfaces, upgraded lighting and drainage were installed, while nearby works are continuing at the Liceo Galilei and a new "Spugna" square in front of the former Palazzina GIL.
