Italian cities see urban redevelopment and security operations

In Noto, redevelopment work has commenced on Largo Rattazzi, a central urban area located along via Rocco Pirri. The project aims to improve the decorum, functionality, and livability of the space, which is a frequent gathering point for youth and a hub for local commerce. Mayor Corrado Figura stated that the intervention is strategic for the city, involving not only new paving but also the installation of new street furniture, public greenery, and dedicated spaces to encourage socialization.

In Trieste, authorities conducted an evacuation operation in the Porto Vecchio area near the monumental entrances of Largo Città di Santos. During the operation, involving the State Police, Carabinieri, and the Army, approximately 100 people were identified. Preliminary findings indicate that about 50 of these individuals were already under the jurisdiction of police offices in other Italian cities, while roughly 20 held documents issued by the Trieste Police Headquarters. Regional Councilor for Security and Immigration Pierpaolo Roberti described the operation as ‘excellent news’ while noting the administrative challenge posed by the high number of individuals already tracked by other jurisdictions.
