Italian cities Taranto and Oristano advance disability‑accessibility measures

The municipal council of Taranto approved a new CUDE (Contrassegno Unico per i Disabili) regulation that removes previous restrictions on issuing disability badges, allowing residents with severe impairments to obtain the permit and delegate collection to a caregiver. CGIL officials warned that despite this change, the city still suffers from widespread barriers, including inaccessible sidewalks and missing architectural‑accessibility plans, and called for a meeting with the mayor and relevant officials.

In Oristano, opposition councillors submitted a motion urging the municipality to recognise "invisible" disabilities and to make public services more inclusive. The proposal calls for awareness campaigns, training for municipal staff and police, optional recognition tools, and preferential access options such as dedicated service windows and booking systems. Both initiatives reflect growing local efforts to improve accessibility for people with disabilities in Italy.
