Italian Coast Guard evacuates cruise passenger off Pescara coast
A 74-year-old passenger of Hispanic origin was medically evacuated from a cruise ship approximately 55 miles off the coast of Pescara, Italy. The emergency was triggered after the International Radio Medical Center (CIRM) confirmed the passenger required urgent care for hepatic and renal failure, alongside a suspected internal hemorrhage.
The Italian Coast Guard responded to the request by deploying the patrol boat CP 828 and the helicopter PH139 ‘Nemo 20’ from the Pescara Air Base. The cruise ship was directed toward the port of Pescara to facilitate the operation. The patient was recovered via helicopter winch and transported to a hospital in Chieti, where he was delivered to medical staff in stable condition.
